Unfortunately, until we get a few sunny warm days to bring the soil temperature up those first tips are very slow growing so I doubt very much that I will have any asparagus for Saturday. We have now got our shed, asparabuggys, and all the picking and shipping containers ready, we just need heat. Historically, the latest we have started picking is May 24. | | Our first family feast of the new season Picture is of our granddaugher finding a few spears for our supper last night. It took our two granddaughters, ages 5 & 3, about 10 minutes of hunting to find enough very short spears for supper. Normally around May 1 we start to see the first signs of green leaves on the trees as the soil warms up, note the trees in the background. That is a good indication of how cold the soil still is. | |  Edgar Farms Asparagus Festival

Every March we get very busy when our 120 cows start calving. The calving is my favorite time of the year, it is so rewarding seeing those baby calves happily running with their tails over their backs. | | Please be sure and stop at the booth and have a sample of our delicious homemade asparagus pickles.
